Well it would appear that another 6 years has passed since the last update and my numerous subscribers are doubtless concerned for my well being. Fear not dear friends, I am pleased to confirm I am still alive!

"What news of Rome then" I hear you ask? Since the last update we have bought a new house for the growing family; got a new job (still working in retail IT despite saying I never would and now also working with Oracle (Netsuite) which I also said I never would, funny world!); and had a new baby, a girl this time, so we have Luke who is now 6 and Sophia who is 18 months.

The world survived the Coronavirus (or Covid as it became known) epidemic. Many people died but not on the scale of the Spanish flu or anything like that. Russia under their dictator Putin has decided to invade Ukraine, who are putting up a fight nobody thought possible. The war has entered its third year and Russia still has not achieved its goals of installing a puppet government and taking a land bridge across the Black Sea to Moldova. They have however mostly take Luhansk, 3/4s of Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia (though excluding the capitals Kherson and Zaporizhzhia).

Ukraine retook Kherson city and stopped Russia at Kharkiv and fought them back to Luhansk, Slava Ukraini! America has alas voted in a TV celebrity called Donald Trump for a second term. He appears controlled by external interests within Russia, with the church but also within the Tech oligarchy. They are each pushing their own goals - Putin using Trump to end the war on favourable terms to Russia; the church using Trump to reverse the enlightenment it would appear under their Project 2025 plan; and the tech oligarchy who appear to be attempting bothing short of bringing down the US democracy and instiuting their own technofeudalist system of governance. They are in the middle of what Curtis Yarvin (their great thinker) called the Butterfly Revolution.

So overall its a time of great change. Heaven knowns what will happen next, Europe appears to be coming together to defend Ukraine and liberal democracy I only hope the UK doesn't elect Nigel Farage's Reform party who appear to basically be the UK's version of Donald Trump's dictatorial party. Each country has its own far right whether that be Germany's AFD, France's RN some have managed to get into power like within Slovakia, Hungary and the USA others are being pushed heavily by these same interests - Russia, the Church and the Technocracy. That's enough politics, I gotta go pick up the kids (never thought I'd be saying that when I started this site!)

So, almost 10 years have passed since my last update, yikes! Don't worry internet, I'm not dead (yet). We're in the middle of an epic viral outbreak called Coronavirus, most of the free world has been told to pause its economies and have everyone lock themselves indoors for a couple of months, so I managed to find a minute or two to stick an update on here.

Since that last post, the Sheevaplug died and has been replaced with a Raspberry Pi, now on web serving duties, mail is now on Google Apps. I've also built Alexandria, my NAS somewhen in between, so put up a little page about that. Oh and I got married; bought a new house; got a new job; drove across Europe; got another new job; and had a baby. So I didn't waste those 10 years dear internet. Though I do need to put some more gumpf up on this here site. I'm sure I'll get right on that...

Finding a few spare shekels in my wallet I've decided to run my own mail and web server, so I give you Wodehouse , my new SheevaPlug server, it's actually running this website as well as all of my email, pretty cool hey?

I've been dabbling with PHP a little recently, and have decided to code up my site using that for a little extra convenience (perhaps I will change the header image a little more often now...).

So here it is then, the official launch of my PHP based site. Look different? No? That's what it's supposed to do ;)

So here it is, the moment we've all been waiting for, the launch of the newly designed site. Or the front page at any rate. I've used vim for all editing. All photos are taken by my good self, and are all licensed under a cc-by-sa license, as is the entire site.

Suffice to say development is on going when I get time. I will likely be changing the CSS a bit over the next few weeks, and will probably change the banner photo when I figure out what to replace it with.

I've just upgraded my main HTPC server, and in so doing have jotted down a few notes to help others lucky enough to happen upon my page. I've also put up long overdue pages for each of my various PCs. I have yet to put up a page about my experiences with Solaris 10 on Camus (my Sun Ultra 5) though.

In a quite extraordinary change of heart, I've decided CSS is in fact the future, and am going to re-do the whole site in XHTML and CSS when I have 5(00) minutes.

Redesigned site launched today. I decided to get rid of the CSS and indeed the blog, I can't help but feel it's all just turning into a new fashion thing. I am going to try and keep the site vaguely up to date, we'll see how that goes...
